Bummer

I tried another new recipe today, and it was ANOTHER flop. It was a Crockpot Cake Recipe, and it totally burned. The entire house smells like acrid, smoky, burnt chocolate. So Gross.

I don't know what's going on. Am I losing my touch? Did I mis-read the recipe? Do I own the world's hottest crock pot? I cooked it on the 10 hour setting, so I'm not sure what else I could have done to turn the heat down.

Does anyone out there have a sure-fire, kick-a recipe they can share with me and help rebuild my cooking confidence?

Blech. I don't even think a Yankee Candle is going to kill that smell. Good thing it's been cool enough to keep the windows open all night and try to air things out. I gotta go wash that smell right outta my hair......

Did you get it off of cjane's blog?? Because I tried her crock pot cake recipe and the same thing happened! I was so excited and it was a huge, black, burnt disappointment.

It's not you or the crock pot, it's the recipe!

Here's one of my favorite chicken recipes, especially if you like cilantro and lime. It's a quick and easy marinade and hard to mess up.

And seriously, blame it on the recipe or the crock pot---you're not losing your touch.

p.s. I missed you at the orchard! And just to make you feel better, the apple cider slushy was good, but it sounded better than it actually tasted. :)

Sorry about the yucky burn smell. If you're a spaghetti sauce fan this recipe should be a real winner. My mom picked it up when we lived in Italy. There were no americans for hours and my stay at home mom wanted friends, so she got the italian neighbors to teach her to cook!

Spaghetti Sauce
From the kitchen of: Momma Shannon

8-10 large tomatoes chopped
¼ c. olive oil
Garlic (fresh is best… 4 cloves)
1 medium onion
1 ½ tsp. salt
2 tsp. basil (fresh is best but not necessary)
½ tsp. fresh parsley

Sauté garlic and onion in olive oil. Add everything else, bring to boil then simmer 3-5 hours, stirring occasionally. Makes about 8 servings.

I was hoping to steal some good recipes off your comment list. My favorite lately is one from you that I stole from somebody else. I will put a plug in for Sara's Santa Fe chicken recipe. I make this one all the time. It's easy, quick, and so delish!!!

I had a crock-pot cake once at Robyns house, and it was delicious. Ask her for her recipe, I have never tried to make one in the crockpot but I am tempted. Keep trying though, isn't that the success to a good recipe, trial and error? :)
